Snoring and Sleep Apnea:

Obstructive sleep apnea:

Snoring is a problem that is caused by the problem of improper breathing and this disorder is caused by is cause by the closing of the upper airway while asleep. The term Apnea means no breathing so sleep apnea means pauses in breathing during sleep and as there is an obstruction during sleep these terms are related. Snoring occurs when the tongue falls backward, collapsing on the back
wall of the upper airway, the uvula and soft pallet forming a tight blockage, preventing any air from entering the lungs and hence there is an obstruction in breathing. It is observed that there is an extra pressure on the diaphragm, the chest and the abdomen only cause the blockage to seal tighter and it complicates the problem.

Lack of sleep:

If these problems continue in coordination then it is seen that they lead to excessive daytime sleepiness, decreased intellectual functioning, decreased sexual functioning, memory loss and depression. As there is a lack of oxygen at night can also place the heart under strain and lead to other health problems and affects the patient further. There are other abnormalities in the patient like increased blood pressure and, in the elderly, worsened dementia. If this problem is taken for granted and there is no proper care of the patient in this context then this can cause worsened effects like premature death.

Cautions to be taken:

If there is a consistent problem of snoring then it should be noted that there should be a notation of document the number, type and duration of periods of no breathing or shallow breathing as well as sleep patterns and heart rhythms. If there are doubts in the mind of the person about sleep apnea then one should undergo a teat named polysomography that is used to measure whether you have sleep apnea or another sleep disorder. There are some measures like Controlled pressure is induced through the nasal passage, holding the soft tissue of the uvula and soft palate and the soft pharyngeal tissue in the upper airway so that the problem can be solved up to a great extent.
